Feeling Good After A Day’s Hard Work

Today, I feel really good after finishing the updates I had to do on one of my websites. It took me quite a while to finish that, honestly I’ve been working on that site on my free time for a few days already. I had to fix quite a lot of posts, because I noticed that the amount of traffic dropped from its usual. I found out that the reason for the decrease in traffic was because some of the video links were no longer working, so what I did was update them. I’m glad that this site has received over 9,000 page views for the month, and I’m looking forward for it to get more.

Anyway, since the work of updating over 250 posts was very mechanical and could be boring when done over long periods, I was either listening to an audiobook or watching Skip Beat. It’s an anime by the way, and I’m really having fun watching it. I guess it’s one of the things that I’m looking forward to watching.

Einstein’s Unfinished Symphony

I was watching a documentary today from BBC about Einstein’s life and his works. The documentary is entitled Einstein’s Unifinished Symphony. Einstein was able to unify the relationship between mass and energy in his formula E=MC2, and this paved way for harnessing nuclear energy, among other applications. Aside from unifying mass and energy, he also attempted to unify gravity with the subatomic forces, and he spent the last 30 years of his life trying to solve that. He was not able to finish the equation though, but it had me up my toes in anticipation. That would be really cool if someone could do that. Although I’m not really so well-versed in such matters–I’m not so good with computations–but it’s really an interesting subject for me. I admire Einstein for his perseverance in trying to answer those questions and to satisfy his curiosity.

Unlike other online shopping centers, ShopWiki features ALL the items it can find on the internet and not just those that advertisers pay for. In a way, it is acting like a search engine like Google, Yahoo, or MSN, but ShopWiki is designed more for shopping online.

Anyway, I’ve checked out their desktop computers section for the latest and cheapest equipment I could find, and I’m quite pleased with the price ranges and the quality of the products. Their laptops are not so bad at all. But I guess that’s to be expected since they are relying on countless stores on the internet! ShopWiki is like the haven for techies who want to purchase computer peripherals and accessories.

Oh boy, and look at these cool Alienware Desktop Computers that are way out of this world. And the price for the specs are not so bad at all. In fact, I’m finding that it’s an intelligent choice to rely on their product search engine to shop a well-informed customer.

Well, what else can I say but check out ShopWiki.com. It’s a great site and its search engine loads fast and brings up the things I’m actually searching for pretty actually. The design is also light and clean, which I really favor over other sites that try to bomb me with information whenever I’m trying to shop online.

Charity vs. Work | Empowering people through work.

I’m recalling the words from one of my personal heroes, Murlidhar Devidas Amte from India. He established communities for lepers, orphans, and differently-abled individuals. But these communities were not for charity, because in these communities the people each have their own work to do and everyone is given a chance to contribute to society. Charity will only lead to self-pity, but work will lead to a sense of purpose, belongingness, and self-respect. This is what Amte believed.

Although I’m not really against charity, I believe that Amte’s words are just. My stand on charity and the idea that we shouldn’t give the man fish, but teach him how to fish, is that not everyone of us has the capacitty to “teach a man how to fish”, that is, to give him work. Charity is okay, because until that time that we can provide the man work and teach him how to fish, we have to help keep him alive. What’s the point of rambling about “teaching him how to fish” and thus withholding from him a couple of coins when he might not survive tomorrow if everyone of us did that?

Anyway, I felt quite good that despite not being paid yet for the work that we do, we are helping to employ people in our job. That’s one of the things that gives me strength amidst the challenges that come in the business.

Noticing Things while Training

People feel good sharing about themselves, their dreams, aspirations, and thoughts. This is why I try to begin sessions of training seminars or classes by allowing the students or participants to introduce themselves and share something about themselves. This helps to lift the mood in the room and it allows them to be less stiff and less self-conscious. This works both ways, not only for them, but for me. It’s easier to talk to people once you realize that they, too, are living, feeling, breathing humans.

Though, honestly, today the participants are quite young–in the high school and elementary school level. It’s a totally different atmosphere from when working with adults and teens. There is more laughter, more surprise, and it’s refreshing to teach them!

I’m really looking forward for the next episodes of the following ongoing anime.

K-ON – an anime about a music (band) club in highschool.The anime is light, funny, and cute.

Higashi no Eden – an anime in a future setting about Selecao’s, people selected to save Japan.

Devil May Cry – a really cool anime about Dante, who hunts demons using his double barreta and a huge sword.

One Piece - now on the 400th plus episode. It’s ana nime about pirates chasing after the greatest treasure in the world–One Piece.

Moderation means that it is 1 glass of beer for women in a day, at most. For men, it can be up to 2 glasses of beer due to men’s faster metabolism.

Drinking beer in moderation reduces the chance of a stroke by as much as 20%, and according to a research in the Texas Southwestern Medical Center on May 1999, it reduces the rate of coronary heart disease by 30-40%.

Beer contains polyphenols or antioxidants and increases the amount of good cholesterol in the bloodstream.

Wordpress Displaying Total Number of Posts on Categories Sidebar

Here’s a simple way to display the total number of posts in your categories sidebar:

If you already have a sidebar displaying, then find the wp_list_categories by going to Appearance>Editor and going to the Sidebar.php file. Sometimes, it’s located on another file depending on the theme that you are using. Change the code to look something like this:

Adding show_count to the arguments on wp_list_categories will display the total number of posts on your categories just like what you see on the right sidebar of this site.
